Branding

A logo that only works on a deck isn’t an identity. We start where it’s hardest and let everything else inherit from that.

Most identities are designed at 2000 pixels on a white slide and then fail at 24 pixels in a browser tab, or embroidered on a shirt, or printed one colour on an invoice.

We design the hardest application first — the favicon, the app icon, the single-colour stamp — and build upward. Anything that survives there works everywhere above it. The reverse is almost never true.

An identity is a system, not a picture.

The logo is the smallest part of it. What decides whether a brand holds together is everything that comes after: the type, the palette, the spacing, how photographs are chosen, what the writing sounds like, and what happens when someone who has never met you has to make a social post on a Friday afternoon.

So we design the system and write it down properly. An identity nobody can apply without asking is an identity that drifts within a year.

What you get

  • Brand strategy

Who it’s for, what it stands against, and what it refuses to be. Short and decided, not a forty-page deck. This is what makes the visual choices arguable rather than arbitrary.

  • Identity design

The mark, designed from its most hostile application upward, in every lockup you’ll actually need — horizontal, stacked, single-colour, icon-only, reversed.

  • Typography and palette

A type system that works on screen and in print, with licensing you can actually afford across the team, and colours checked for contrast so your own brand doesn’t make your website fail accessibility.

  • Art direction

How photography and illustration get chosen, so the brand still looks like itself when someone else is picking the images.

  • Applications

The specific things you need: stationery, decks, packaging, signage, social templates, email signatures. Designed rather than extrapolated.

  • Guidelines

A practical document — what to do, what not to do, and the files to use — written for whoever joins next year, not as a trophy.

How it works

  1. 01

    Discovery

The business, the market, and what the current identity is costing you. Interviews with your team and, where it’s useful, your customers.

  2. 02

    Strategy

Positioning and personality, agreed in writing before anything is drawn. Short enough to remember.

  3. 03

    Routes

Two or three distinct directions, each shown in context rather than on a white board — on a phone, on a sign, on a shirt. A logo looks good in isolation; that isn’t the test.

  4. 04

    Refinement

One route developed properly, including the awkward applications everyone defers.

  5. 05

    System and rollout

Full file set, guidelines, and support while it gets applied. The rollout is where most rebrands quietly fall apart.

Questions

How many logo options do we get?

Two or three developed routes, not twenty thumbnails. Twenty options means the thinking hasn’t been done — it transfers the decision to you without the reasoning that should inform it.

We just need a logo. Can we skip the rest?

You can, and we’ll tell you honestly whether that’s wise. For a new venture that needs to start trading, a mark plus a minimal type and colour system is often the right scope. For an established business, a logo without a system usually means paying twice.

Can you refresh what we have rather than start over?

Often the better answer. An identity with equity in it is worth keeping and tightening. We’ll say plainly which situation you’re in after discovery, including when the answer is “this is fine, spend the money elsewhere”.

Do we own the design?

Yes, on final payment — full rights to the artwork. Typefaces are the exception: those are licensed from their foundries, and the licence is yours to hold. We’ll choose fonts whose licensing suits your team size and tell you the cost before you commit.

Do you do the trademark search?

No. We’ll flag anything that looks close to something we know, but a proper search is specialist legal work and worth doing before you commit to a mark, not after. We’ll tell you when in the process to start it.

How long and how much?

A focused identity, six to eight weeks. A full programme with applications and guidelines, three to four months. A range on the first call. [Add your floor.]
